The history of Gîte du Marais
1890: THE CHÂTEAU DE ROUVROY
In 1890, Charlemagne Lemoine (great-grandfather of Philippe, the current owner) acquired Château de Rouvroy and the surrounding land and marshes.
Rue Gabriel Laguilliez was then called Rue du Marais, and no new buildings were erected.
THE GÎTE DURING THE GREAT WAR
During the 14-18 war, the village and château of Rouvroy, which were on the Edinburgh line, were totally destroyed.
On the site of the château, a large house was rebuilt in the 1920s.
Charlemagne's Parisian friends, who like to come to the countryside to recharge their batteries, asked him to cede the marshland to them.
This family owned the marsh until 2019, when the heiress offered Philippe the chance to buy back the property, which had been abandoned for several years.
2019 : THE REBIRTH OF THE GÎTE
He agreed to buy back the old family property and, with Emmanuelle, they decided to transform and extend the cottage into a gîte.
